sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg.
If it not works then
Option #1:
-backup your xorg.conf (sudo mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.old)
-run the "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" again
Option #2:
you can also try editing your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and manually adding resolutions in the display & screen sections.
If these don't work, I would think it's a driver issue. If that's the case, I'd just download the manufacturer's proprietary drivers
